Jazz by Vinyl | Bluemoose | Bad Girls Groove | Beat ‘N’ Blow | Thank Funk

Let’s be honest the Jazz Festival is more than an institution in Cork since it began way back when! In usual fashion we have a huge Jazzy line up for you this year kicking off your weekend with Jazz by Vinyl! We have one of Ireland’s most energetic bands Bluemoose, bringing your Jazz weekend into full swing on Friday night, to get you up jiving on the floor for sure.

Cork becomes Europe’s Jazziest city for a weekend and plays host to some of the best in the business. Here in Reardens we love getting our hands on big acts to fill our dance floor and this year is no different. Saturday night we are bringing you Bad Girls Groove, who are irresistibly toe tapping and always soulful and more than able to pack a dance floor.

We have Beat ‘N’ Blow and Thank Funk wrapping up your weekend of Jazz in a way that’ll only make you want more. Both groups bring a stage presence that will have your limbs swinging and give you an unforgettable experience.

Ireland’s only Jamaican ska big band is coming to Cork’s Biggest and Best Reardens Bar. They are playing first wave, old-school Jamaican ska, featuring covers of classic tracks from the likes of The Skatalites, Byron Lee & The Dragonaires, Prince Buster and many more. All about that party feeling, this infectious music exploded with celebrations of Jamaican independence in the ’60s, paving the way for reggae, 2 tone and rocksteady, all of which have roots set firmly in ska.

Interskalactic’s modern big band take on this classic music has had people dancing for up to two hours straight and still calling for more. When allowed, they’ll give it!

Though new on the live scene, Interskalactic have already been delighting festival audiences at the likes of Electric Picnic and Cork Jazz festival, as well as frequent gigs at top venues including Whelan’s, Button Factory and The Sugar Club in Dublin and now they’re hitting Reardens Bar as part of Guinness Amplify. Interskalactic will take to the stage at 10pm on Thursday 2nd October. With support starting at 8.30pm from The Ben Reel Band, it’s shaping up to be an amazing night – Be here early to avoid disappointment!

What a weekend! Cork city took a step back in time last weekend to celebrate the Decade which brought us Riverdance, Father Ted and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air – the nineties!

Red FM’s Colm O’Sullivan kicked off the weekend in Reardens Bar playing some of the best nineties hits to get everyone in the mood! Later on Friday night, crowd favourites J90 took to the stage for a rip roaring set that included favourites such as Jump On it which caused the crowd to break out their finest 90’s dance moves!
colm

We also had some very special guests in the bar over the weekend! We were joined by some 90’s heroes – SpongeBob Squarepants, Barney and Mickey Mouse! Where else would you see the likes of it?! Everyone was clamouring over each other to get a picture with their childhood heroes!
90's

And the fun didn’t end there. The Secret Garden transformed into Jurassic Park for the weekend. Dinosaurs adorned the walls, and the lovely bartenders acted as our palaeontologists (we only know that word because of Dr. Ross Gellar!) for the weekend. secret costume

Overall, I think it’s fair to say that the weekend was a massive success! We were so impressed with the effort people put into dressing up and getting into the spirit of things! Hope you all had a ball! Check out our photos from the weekend on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/reardens

There is nothing we love more than a long weekend here at Reardens. What better excuse to put life on hold and have a good time for three great nights (or four if you’re brave enough to soldier on for Monday Club).

We’ve got a full weekend of music and sports lined up for you all! Friday evening will see Cork City taking on Dundalk in Turner’s Cross, kick off at 7.45pm. Just when everyone has had time to digest the hopefully positive result of that match, we’ll have The Seducers taking to the stage at 10pm. For those of you who haven’t seen The Seducers live then you are in for a treat! A top of the range sound system and state of the art lighting, combined with real on stage energy and the desire to play every show at their best has seen them build a large following of fans in this short space of time. Covering hits from every genre from the 50’s right up to current chart hits, their philosophy is simple: take the best music of all time, recreate it authentically, and have a good time doing it. Cian Hennessy will then take to the decks at midnight.

cork city

On Saturday Night we’ll be kicking off the music a little bit earlier than usual with DJ Dave Downey at 9pm. Following Dave, at 11pm we then have Finbarr Cronin playing until the early hours.

Sunday is going to be a jam packed day for sports. We’ll have two extremely exciting matches on the screens for all you football followers out there. At 2pm we have Galway taking on Kerry live from Croke Park. Following this we then have the sporting highlight of the day with Mayo taking on Cork in the All Ireland Football Quarter Final, kicking off at 4pm. Could this be Cork’s year? Could we be in with a chance of winning the double for 2014? It all remains to be seen! Wishing the Cork lads the best of luck from all at #PairicUiReardens!

GAA-NEW-POSTER-TEMPLATE

Following the excitement of the football we’ll have Roisin Dubh on the stage from 10pm. Roisin Dubh is a four-piece ballad group playing a mixture of Irish traditional music, contemporary songs and original compositions. Formed in ’91 they have entertained audiences at major venues and festivals in Ireland, the UK, Europe and North America. Strongly influenced by ballad groups such as the Dubliners, Dublin City Ramblers and the Wolfe Tones. Rosin Dubh have developed a distinctive and entertaining style that is uniquely theirs. We’ll also be hosting a sampling of Radler on the night so if you’re around town, be sure to pop in for some!

We’ll be serving food straight through the weekend until midnight every night so pop in for a pizza or a pie, no matter how late it is! Or try our nachos if you’re just out for a drink with friends. They’re absolutely delicious and perfect to share with friends!

Monday doesn’t mark the end of the weekend, in many ways it’s just the beginning of the best night of the week (in our humble opinion!). We’ll be handing out some goodies in the bar throughout the day and night to get everyone in the mood for Monday Club. So if you’re brave enough to keep going for one more night after a long weekend or if you’ve been working all weekend then come on in to experience the epic Monday Club!

Reardens has long been associated with late nights, live music, sporting events and good times but recently we’ve been getting quite a name for ourselves thanks to our delicious food.  Now people can come in and get a freshly prepared, pizza baked in wood fired oven and enjoy it along with a cold pint – fantastic on a hot summers day (hope we’ll have more of those!) And the best part is that we are open for food from midday to midnight so whenever you may get peckish we have you covered!

Our food service begins at midday when our talented chef Norbert prepares some of the best local ingredients to make some mouth watering lunch time delights. Sandwiches made on Arbutus bread, warming pies, pizzas and soothing soups are all offered between the hours of 12 and 3 pm. When you add our delicious Badger and Dodo boutique coffee to the equation you have a lunchtime spent well!

The food doesn’t stop at 3pm. In fact, some exciting options begin service at this time. Has anyone tried our trio of sliders? If you haven’t then you really need to get down here and delight your tastebuds! Barbeque soaked pulled pork, Clonakilty black pudding and Roscarberry Rashers are among all the ingredients which make up this plate of locally sourced goodness. Of course, our ever popular pizzas are available all day, and we have some exciting new pizza toppings to add to our already well appreciated menu! On a cold days why not come in and warm yourself up with one of our freshly prepared pies. The options include the uniquely delectable Beef and Beamish Pie, the ever popular Shepherd’s Pie and luxurious Spinach and white bean gratin, to name but a few of our options.

For those of you who just want a small bite, we also offer plain, chicken or chilli beef nachos which can be shared between a few people (although we promise you that when you taste them you will not want to share!)

All of these options are available until midnight, which we’ll sure you will agree is pretty impressive! So come in, pull up a bar stool and enjoy some top notch grub in a great atmosphere, whether it be to enjoy a match on our HDHQ screens, see some live music or just to unwind for a few hours. Check out also our bundle offers and we promise you won’t be disappointed!

We’re willing to bet that there’s a few sore heads around Cork city this morning! What an amazing day yesterday was for sports. First up we had the Cork lads sailing to victory against neighbors Limerick. It seemed like it was going to be a fairly closely contended game until the latter stages of the second half when Cork overtook Limerick with two goals that the treaty county could not match. Needless to say the city was absolutely hopping last night with delighted fans taking to the streets to celebrate the hard fought victory. We couldn’t be prouder of the rebel lads for winning our first Munster title in 8 years!

IMG_2410

As if a Munster Final wasn’t enough excitement for one day, we had the World Cup Final to follow at 8pm. The final saw Argentina take on Germany in a nail biting final that only produced one goal, bringing Germany to victory. The strong German contingent in Cork was obviously absolutely delighted, as were we to have a European victory! Both of these victories made for an absolutely mental night in Reardens Bar! Hell for Leather kept the packed bar entertained for the night, no better men!

world cup

This week’s Monday Club is going to be absolutely insane! And what better way to get over the hangover then with a bit of a roll over? ;) Put on your glorious Cork jersey again and get out to show some more support for the rebels! It’s time to take advantage of our victory; we have been waiting 8 years after all! On top of the roll over crowd from yesterday, The National will be taking to the stage in the Marquee and everyone with a ticket stub will be able to exchange it for a free drink, aren’t we very good to you all? :)

Every once in a while a day comes along that is so jam-packed with sporting action that we can barely contain the excitement – this Sunday is definitely going to be one of those days!
Kicking off at 4.00pm in Pairc Ui Chaoimh we have the ever majestic Cork Senior Hurling team taking on neighbors Limerick in the Munster Senior Hurling Final. This is sure to be an exhilarating game which has not gone without some controversy. Many fans expressed their contempt when it was announced that, in agreement with the home and away agreement between Cork and Limerick, the Munster Final was to be held in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Many felt that they would miss out on the final. However, nearly 35,000 fans are expected to descend on the stadium in Ballintemple this coming Sunday. For those of you who may not have been lucky enough to get a ticket then never fear, we’ve got the next best thing – Pairc Ui Reardens. The match will be shown live on our HDHQ screens throughout the bar, and the atmosphere is sure to be electric! We’ll have food being served throughout the match, and the Birdie Bar will be open to keep you all well watered, but at a low, low price!
cork hurling
As if the Munster Final wasn’t enough excitement for one Sunday, just when we’ve digested the result of that match, we’ve got the Fifa World Cup Final kicking off at 8pm. It’s yet to be decided which teams will be taking each other on in what’s sure to be an intense match. Could it be Brazil, Germany, Netherlands or Argentina who take the title? Only time will tell but with the possibility of an all European Final it’s sure to be a busy one!  As with the Munster Final, we’ll be serving food throughout the match and it’ll be your last chance to get your hands on some of our highly popular World Cup Specials so don’t miss out!
brasil
Sunday night is sure to be a late one. If Cork takes the title then we’re going to have an absolutely full house, and even if it doesn’t go our way on the day we’re sure that the crowds will all still be out to show their support for their team. Do us proud boys! #corcaighabu #paircuireardens

Venoo promises to change the face of nights out forever, by allowing you to chat up people and even buy them a drink, on your phone. The app, which has been masterminded by Ballincollig man James O’Keeffe, has been in operation in Reardens Bar, as well as The Secret Garden and Havana Browns now for the last month and has been growing from strength to strength. Over two and half thousand customers are now benefiting from the app which offers users an amazing 15% off all drinks brought with the app. To put that in perspective, if you were normally paying €21 for a Bull Round then with Venoo you will only pay €17.85. Plans are already in store to expand it throughout the city, and country.

venoo devel

Another massive draw for people using the app is the social side of it. Described by O’Keefe in The Examiner as “Facebook meets Tinder, with a till system built into it.” The vast majority of people these days own a smartphone and will regularly use it on a night out to contact friends, take photos etc. So it makes sense that you can now also meet new people in the club by using your phone. It’s as simple as sending them a wink or a drink, and then a conversation can strike up. Who knows, in years to come people may be thanking Venoo for their marriage?

venoo staff

Venoo also has made efforts to promote the idea of safe drinking and making sure that your friends make it home safely by using push notifications throughout the night. As O’Keefe said in an interview with TheJournal.ie “Towards the end of every night, we would have a notification going out telling people to plan their way home and taxi numbers built into it so people can ring and book one home. The main thing that we’re conscious of is the safety of our customers coming into [and leaving] a venue.”

With all of this said, it’s pretty clear that Venoo is the Swiss army knife of socialising. If you haven’t already Venoo’d then you really need to give it a try. You won’t be sorry. It seems that even golfing legends are fans of the app!

World Cup quarter finals are upon us and we cannot wait to get the games under way!! We kick things off tonight with France v Germany today at 5pm which is a game good enough for a final! Following that tonight we have the home side Brazil taking on their South American neighbours Columbia in a game that promises to be a brilliant competition.

With the tournament drawing to a close and many of the top ranked teams not making it this far, the atmosphere for the final is becoming brilliant in the bar. We’ve been packed with supporters for both teams in the last few matches and are loving the banter!
We are encouraging fans to come in wearing their team’s colours to add to the atmosphere and if you do, you can get a free drink at the bar!! If you’re from the country or not get on the country’s colours and come in to show your support! We also have our World Cup Specials board for anyone who wants a taste from the other side of the World!
Saturday, we have Argentina taking on Belgium and the Netherlands taking on Costa Rica both games have top ranked teams and teams who have taken on some top competition and made it through to this round.
